I loved this book b/c it brought me back to the days when i was using heroin. In it, her protagonist Felix (Prospero), plots ingenious revenge on his usurpers via a performance of "The Tempest" in a prison.Atwood is a celebrated literary talent because she has a magnificent imagination and a luscious way with words. Alther should be very very proud of this literary achievement. [One health care provider said she was told to avoid the local hospital after if was bought by a for-profit corporation.] The increases in privatization was followed by more problems (p.88). What I loved about this book is what it's not: This book isn't a how-to manual on sex, or a clinical discussion about the sexual habits of American women. I have never seen a CD- or DVD-ROM edition of it and, the commercial considerations of McGraw-Hill aside, that seems like a great failing. This one gets it just right: the chemistry of the air, water and soil (including common pollutants) at the level of a undergraduate sophomore- or junior-level course. Warning: If you follow Dr. Atwood's brilliance (on several levels) flashes forward in the second half of this novel and especially in the final sequences involving the actors and their understanding of the play they have performed.
